Intersection

Created for Interactive 05 during the Toronto Art Fair at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).

When asked to make a sound installation for the pedestrian bridge that connects the north and south buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), the obvious subject that first came to mind was the sound of the commuter trains passing underneath the bridge. But upon further investigation of the MTCC corridors and foyers that lead to this bridge, I discovered that many of the escalators at the MTCC sound a lot like trains, particularly with their distinctive chugga-chugga rhythms. Therefore, this installation is drawn from signal processing of the MTCCC escalators and the GO Train in order to make the two worlds that intersect at this bridge more apparent.
