They're Trying to Save Themselves

by Darren Copeland
Date: 2002. Length: 3:56

They're Trying to Save Themselves was commissioned by The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for Loss and Legacy, a commemorative radio broadcast for the anniversary of September 11th. The sounds are all taken from an eye witness account aired on CNN following the tragedy. The spoken words undergo a number of textural metamorphoses that evoke different sound images relating to the events of September 11th, such as low-flying aircraft, and panicky voices, as well as other sonorities that paint the emotional atmosphere. Special thanks to James Roy and David Jaeger for their generous support.
