Ice Tuner by Darren Copeland

Ice Tuner arranges Ice audio recordings by temperature rather than by date.

  • Click on the tuner to start audio.
  • Move the tuner position to a new temperature value to change audio.
  • The audio will advance automatically to the next temperature in sequence when the tuner is not touched. This provides the option of listening without frequent interaction with the interface.

All of the sounds in Ice Tuner are recorded with hydrophones at the shoreline of Deer Lake, Lount Township, Ontario, Canada between November 2023 and April 2024. Through this warmer than normal winter period the water at the lake shoreline would vary between different stages of freezing and melting. That along with mixtures of snow and rain or occasional heavy winds helped to shape the the variety of sound textures in Ice Tuner.
