The soundscapes in the piece were organized chronologically from recordings made between 2 and 11 am on May 5, 2025. No other sounds were added. Like the Changing Weather pieces, the recordings were made at the Weathered Piano site at Warbler’s Roost in Lount Township, 22 KM west of South River, Ontario, Canada. The recordings made for this series are all done at one single outdoor location, which is The Weathered Pianos site at Warbler’s Roost. The recordings are done on a continuous basis without the recordist being present; same process as The Absent Listener series. My compositional approach with these pieces is to avoid my normal inclination for layering together recordings from different moments. Soundscapes play out for as long as I remain engaged in them as a listener.

Changing Weather by The Absent Listener

January 2025

Ice Tuner is a new interactive web audio piece that I am developing with the assistance of Kyle Duffield. The difference between this version and the February 2020 has more to do with seasonal changes between mid-winter and late-winter then with the sudden COVID-19 shutdowns.
