This video composition is part of The Absent Listener series of pieces that are made from continuous “drop-rig” soundscape recordings. The soundscapes in the piece unfold chronologically from recordings made between 2 and 11 am on May 5, 2025. No other sounds have been added.

The recordings were made at the Weathered Piano site at Warbler’s Roost in Lount Township, 22 KM west of South River, Ontario, Canada. The audio on the left and right sides of the stereo image are from different times, sometimes minutes apart, other times mere seconds. Time and Weather Data is included with photographic imagery of the recording location to assist the listener with more contextual information. The Absent Listener is a project by Darren Copeland who has been making continuous “drop rig” (or unsupervised) soundscape recordings at this same site since 2019.
